Baranchikov Yuri Nikolaevich, born 30 April, 1952 in the city of Sverdlovsk (4 September 1991 the city of Sverdlovsk regained its historical name Yekaterinburg), Sverdlovsk Oblast, Soviet Union (since 1992 – Russia). Graduated from M. Gorki Ural State University (USU) (12 May 2011 USU has been affiliated to Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Eltsin), Faculty of Biology (at the present time – Institute of Natural Sciences), in the city of Sverdlovsk, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Soviet Union (since 1992 – Russia) (1974). Candidate of Biological Sciences (PhD, 1986), Senior Research Scientist (1988) in Entomology. PhD thesis: «Znachenie Troficheskoy Spetsializatsii v Effektivnosti Pitaniya Dendrofilnykh Cheshuekrylykh» (Significance of Trophic Specialization in Feeding Effectivity of Dendrophilous Lepidopterous Insects), Krasnoyarsk, V. Expert in forest insect ecology and forest protection. Served as a leader, coordinator and an expert in many international research projects on forest invasive insects.
