Ivanov Valery Alexandrovich

Ivanov Valery Alexandrovich, born 20 October, 1953 in the city of Norilsk, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Soviet Union (since 1992 – Russia). Graduated from the Order of the Red Banner of Labour Siberian Institute of Technology (SibIT) (in 1997 SibIT renaimed to Siberian State University of Technology (SibSUT), in 2016 SibSUT affiliated to Reshetnev Siberian State University of Science and Technology), Faculty of Forestry (at the present time – Institute of Forestry Engineering), with a specialty in Forestry and qualification Engineer of Forestry, in the city of Krasnoyarsk, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Soviet Union (1982). Candidate (PhD, 1997), and Doctor (DSc, 2006) of Agricultural Sciences in Forest Science and Silviculture, Forest Fires and Fire Fighting. PhD thesis: «Lesnye Pozhary ot Groz na Eniseyskoy Ravnine» (Forest Fires from Thunderstorms on the Yenisei Plain), Krasnoyarsk, V. N. Sukachev Inst. For., Rus. Acad. Sci., Sib. Br., 1996 (in Russian). DSc thesis: «Metodologicheskie Osnovy Klassifikatsii Lesov Sredney Sibiri po Stepeni Pozharnoy Opasnosti ot Groz» (Methodological Basis for Classification of Forests in Central Siberia in Terms of Fire Danger from Thunderstorms), Krasnoyarsk, Sib. St. Univ. Technol., 2006 (in Russian). Professor (2010), Head for the Department of Silviculture, Institute of Forest Technologies, Reshetnev Siberian State University of Science and Technology, in the city of Krasnoyarsk, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. Specialist in forest science and forest pyrology. PI and Co-PI for a numerous research grants on studying forest fires and their influence on the Siberian forests. Scientific interests in study regularities of occurrence, propagation, development and prediction of forest fires from lightning, development of methodological basis for classifying forests according to the degree of fire danger. The results of the studies are used at lecture courses in forest universities and institutes for advanced training of forestry specialists in forest pyrology and fire management. Practical recommendations published in the form of «Spravochnik po Tusheniyu Prirodnykh Pozharov» (Handbook on Extinguishing Forest Fires), are widely used in aviation forest protection units of the Federal Forestry Agency of the Russian Federation. Author and coauthor of more than 150 papers, including 7 monographs, and patents of an invention.
