Sokolov Alexander Ivanovich

Sokolov Alexander Ivanovich, born 17 June, 1944 in the city of Kem, Kemsky District, Republic of Karelia, Soviet Union (since 1992 – Russia), deceased 14 February, 2018. Graduated (Diploma with Distinction) from Petrozavodsk State University, Faculty of Forest Engineering (at the present time – Institute of Forestry, Engineering and Construction Sciences), with a specialty in Forestry, and qualification Engineer of Forestry (1971). Candidate (PhD, 1984) and Doctor (DSc, 2012) of Agricultural Sciences in Forest Crops, Selection and Seed Growing, Associate Professor in Forest Crops, Selection, Seed Growing, and Protective Afforestation (2003), the Honored Laborer of Forest Complex of the Republic of Karelia (2017). PhD thesis: «Sokhrannost’ Semyan Sosny Obyknovennoy v Pochve i Ee Znachenie Dlya Lesovozobnovleniya v Taezhnoy Zone» (Safe Keeping of Scotch Pine Seeds in the Soil and its Importance for Forest Regeneration in Taiga Zone), Leningrad, Order of Lenin S. M. Kirov Leningrad Forest Tech. Acad. (at the present time – S. M. Kirov Saint-Petersburg State For. Tech. Univ.), 1984 (in Russian). DSc thesis: «Ekologo-Lesovodstvennye osnovy Sozdaniya Lesnykh Kul’tur na Neraskorchevannykh Vyrubkakh s Zavalunennymi Pochvami Severo-Zapada Taezhnoy Zony» (Ecological-Silvicultural Bases for Creating Forest Crops on Non-Stubbed Logging Areas with Bolder Field Soils at the North-West of Taiga Zone), Arkhangelsk, M. V. Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Fed. Univ., 2012 (in Russian). Chief Research Scientist for the Laboratory for Boreal Forest Dynamics and Production, Forest Research Institute, Karelian Research Centre, Russian Academy of Sciences, in the city of Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia, Russia (2012-2018). Specialist in artificial reforestation of clear-cutting areas, forest nurseries, reclamation of technogenically disturbed lands. Author and co-author of more than 150 scientific publications, including 7 books, 12 manuals and practical recommendations.
