Vashchuk Leonid Nikolaevich

Vashchuk Leonid Nikolaevich, born 15 September 1944 in Kuchovka village Starokostiantyniv Raion, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Ukraine (former Soviet Union). Graduated from Lviv Forest Engineering Institute (at the present time – Ukrainian National Forestry University), Faculty of Forestry (at the present time – Institute of Forestry and Park and Garden Management), with a specialty in Forestry, qualification Engineer of Forestry, in the city of Lviv, Ukraine (1971). Forest career pattern more than 50 years. For 10 years worked as the Chief Forester for Irkutsk Oblast, and for 17 years – as Chief Engineer for the Pribaikalskii Forest Planning Enterprise (at the present time – Pribaikalskii Branch of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise «Roslesinforg» «Pribaikallesproekt»). He was a member of the Presidium of the Regional Nature Conservation Society, headed by the Irkutsk Regional Council of the Russian Society of Foresters, the board of independent non-profit organization «Forestry Scientific and Technical Society». PI and Co-PI for a number of international projects for rationalization of natural resources’ use, improving environmental situation in the Eastern Siberia, improving methods of forest inventory. Among them: the TACIS project «Sustainable Use of Natural Resources in the Basin of Lake Baikal» (1996–1998); The Global Environment Facility projects on: «Biodiversity Conservation in Russia» (1997–2003); «The Measures to Combat Forest Fires in Goloustnoe Forestry Enterprise», «Development of an Integrated Environmental Monitoring in Goloustnaya River Basin», «Implementation of an Integrated Environmental Monitoring in Goloustnaya River Basin»; the European Union and the European Space Agency projects on: SIBERIA «SAR Imaging for Boreal Ecology and Radar Interferometry Applications» (1998–2000), SIBERIA-II «Multi-Sensor Concepts for Greenhouse Gas Accounting in Northern Eurasia» (2002–2004), and «Forest Monitoring in Russia» (2004–2007). Participated in the development of the Environmental Program of Irkutsk Oblast and Environmental Atlas of Irkutsk Oblast. For outstanding scientific work in the field of geography was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Russian Geographical Society (2000). The Honored Forestry Worker of Irkutsk Oblast (2012). Pensioner (2016-present), live in the city of Irkutsk, Irkutsk OblastRussia. Author and co-author of more than 100 publications on forest issues.
