Venäläinen Martti, born 12 December, 1959, in the city of Enonkoski, Southern Savonia region, Finland. Graduated from the University of Helsinki, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, Department of Forest Sciences, with MSc (1986), and DSc (2003) in Forestry, in the city of Helsinki, Finland. Senior Researcher for the Finnish Forest Research Institute (METLA) (1988-2015), Senior Research Scientist for Biorefinery and Bioproducts – Production Systems Unit, Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), in the city of Savonlinna, Southern Savonia, Finland (2015-present). Research interests in tree breeding, testing of breeding material, genetic variation in wood quality characteristics, durability of timber, extractives, testing of resistance against decay and mould. Author and co-author of more than 130 scientific publications.
