Krasnoshchekov Yuri Nikolaevich, born 8 July, 1947 in the town of Cheremkhovo, Irkutsk Oblast, Russia. Graduated from Irkutsk State University, Faculty of Biology and Soil Studies, with a specialty in Soil Science and Agrochemistry, qualification Soil Science Specialsit and Agrochemist, in the city of Irkutsk, Irkutsk Oblast, Russia  (1971). Candidate of Agricultural Sciences (PhD) in Forest Science, Silviculture, and Protective Forest Growing; Forest Fires and Fire Fighting (1977), Doctor of Biological Sciences in Ecology and Soil Science (1991). PhD thesis: "Pochvozashchitnaya Rol' Gornykh Lesov Basseyna Ozera Baikal" (Soil Protective Role of Mountain Forests of the Baikal Lake Basin), Krasnoyarsk, V. N. Sukachev Inst. For. and Timber, Sib. PI and CoPI for more than 20 national and international research projects on study and mapping of forest ecosystems. Main directions of scientific research are: genesis, geography and ecology of forest soils of the Baikal Lake region, including Mongolia, the study of soil-protective functions of mountain forests, and the impact of forestry activities and forest fires to change the properties of soils, with an assessment of their forest growth potential. Member of the editorial board of peer-reviewed scientific journal "Sibirskij Lesnoj Zurnal" ("Sib. J. For. Sci."). Author and co-author of more than 190 papers, including 12 books.
