Schmullius Christiane Cornelia, born 14 May, 1960. Graduated from University of California in Santa Barbara Department of Geography (USA, 1984). PhD in Space Sciences from Free University Berlin (Germany, 1991). PI for Geoinformatics Group at Microwaves and Radar Institute, German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen (2004), Professor for the Department of Earth Observation at Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena (Germany, 2000). Expert in land cover and vegetation mapping, especially forest structure and biomass. PI, coordinator and expert for a numerous international research projects on remote sensing of forests. Member of the German Science Foundation Committee on "Future Earth" and Chair for DLR Senate Committee, Advisor for European Space Agency Earth Science Advisory Committee and European Commission Space Science Advisory Council. Awarded with the National Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Germany, 2010), nominated to membership for the Thuringia Academy of Sciences in Erfurt (Germany, 2013). Author (and co-author) of more than 400 peer-reviewed papers.
