Sokolov Vladimir Alekseevich, born 5 November, 1940 in the city of Volokolamsk, Volokolamsky District, Moscow Oblast, Russia (former USSR). Graduated from Bryansk Technological Institute (at the present time – Bryansk State University of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Forestry (at the present time – Institute of Forest Complex, Transport and Ecology) (1963). Candidate (PhD, 1985) and Doctor (1997) of Agricultural Sciences, Professor (2002) in Forest Planning and Forest Inventory. PhD thesis: «Printsipy Organizatsii Kompleksnogo Khozyaistva v Lesakh Vostochno-Sayanskogo Gorno-Taezhnogo Raiona» (The Foundations for Organization of Complex Economy in the Forests of the East-Sayan Mountain Taiga Region), Krasnoyarsk, 1985 (in Russian). DSc thesis: «Osnovy Organizatsii Khozyaistva v Lesakh Sibiri» (The Fundamentals for Organization of Economy in the Forests of Siberia), Krasnoyarsk, 1996 (in Russian). Highly skilled forester, specialist in the area of forest management, organization of multipurpose sustainable forestry. Advised 2 Full Doctors of Sci. (Russian), advised and trained 11 PhD students and more than 20 specialists-foresters with higher education. Member of the editorial boards for an international peer-reviewed theoretical and applied research journal Lesnaya Taksaciya i Lesoustroistvo (Forest Inventory and Forest Planning), and peer-reviewed scientific journal "Sibirski Lesnoi Zurnal" ("Siberian Journal of Forest Science"). Veteran of Forest Planning, and of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. For a creative scientific activity of many years and outstanding contribution to the development of science, awarded by the "Silver Sigma" honorary sign of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2007), Honorary Notes, Letters and Diplomas of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Government and the Legislative Assembly of Krasnoyarsk Territory. Author and co-author of more than 250 papers, including 23 monographs.
