Benkova Vera Efimovna, born 12 August, 1951 in the town of ArtyomovskKuraginsky DistrictKrasnoyarsk KraiSoviet Union (since 1992 – Russia). Graduated from Krasnoyarsk State University (KSU) (in 2006 KSU being included to Siberian Federal University), Faculty of Physics (at the present time – School of Engineering Physics and Radio Electronics, Siberian Federal University), Department of Biophysics, with a specialty in Biophysics, and qualification Physicist, in the city of Krasnoyarsk, Krasnoyarsk KraiSoviet Union (1973). Candidate of Technical Sciences (PhD) in Wood Science, Technology and Equipment for Timber Processing (1987). PhD thesis: «Dielektricheskaya Relaksasciya Svyazannoi Vody v Drevesine» (Dielectric Relaxation of Bound Water in Timber), Krasnoyarsk, Sib. Inst. Technol., 1987 (in Russian). Doctor of Biological Sciences in Botany (2005). DSc thesis: «Anatomiya Drevesiny Rastenii Rossii» (Timber Anatomy of Plants of Russia), KrasnoyarskV. N. Sukachev Inst. For., Rus. Acad. Sci., Sib. Br., 2004 (in Russian). Senior Research Scientist for the Laboratory of Tree Ring Structure V. N. Sukachev Inst. For., Rus. Acad. Sci., Sib. Br., Fed. Res. Center Krasnoyarsk Sci. Center, Rus. Acad. Sci., Sib. Br., in the city of Krasnoyarsk, Russia (2005-present). Expert for the Council on Forestry at Krasnoyarsk Territorial Fund for Support of Scientific and Technological Activities (KTSF). Member of the International Academy of Wood Science (IAWS). Author of the book «Anatomy of Russian Woods (An atlas for the identification of trees, bushes, shrubs, dwarf shrubs and woody lianas from Russia)», published in collaboration with Prof. F. H. Schweingruber (Switzerland) in 2004 by P. Haupt Publ. Comp. (Switzerland), which one was included in the list of major scientific achievements of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2004 and in the list of major scientific achievements of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2005. Author of the Russian version of multilingual Glossary of Dendrochronology (terms and definitions in 6 languages, compiled by M. Kaennel and F. H. Schweingruber, Switzerland, 1995), the author of 70 scientific papers, including cycles of articles devoted to the study of properties of bound water in the wood, the influence of density on the structure of young pine forests, on wood anatomy and dendroecology.
