Kurhinen Yuriy Pavlovich, born 02 August 1955, in the city of Petrozavodsk, Karelian ASSR (since 1991 – Republic of Karelia), Soviet Union (since 1992 – Russia). Graduated from Petrozavodsk State University named after O. V. Kuusinen (at the present time – Petrozavodsk State University), Department of Biology (at the present time – Institute of Biology, Ecology and Agricultural Technologies), with a specialty in Biology, qualification Biologist, in the city of Petrozavodsk, Karelian ASSR, Soviet Union (1977). Candidate of Biological Sciences (PhD) in Ecology (1984), Doctor of Biological Sciences (DSc) in Zoology and Ecology (2002). PhD thesis: «Ekologicheskiy Analiz Vliyaniya Rubok Lesa na Teriokompleksy Taezhnykh Biogeotsenozov (na Primere Karel’skoy ASSR)» (Ecological Analysis of the Impact of Forest Felling on the Teriocomplexes of Taiga Biogeocenoses (Using the Example of the Karelian ASSR), Petrozavodsk, Petrozavodsk St. Univ., 1984 (in Russian). DSc thesis: «Mlekopitayushchie i Teterevinnye Ptitsy Vostochnoy Fennoskandii v Usloviyakh Antropogennoy Transformatsii Taezhnykh Ekosistem» (Mammals and Grouse Birds of Eastern Fennoscandia in the Conditions of Anthropogenic Transformation of Taiga Landscapes), Petrozavodsk, Petrozavodsk St. Univ., 2001 (in Russian).
