Mapelli Sergio, born 26 December 1950, in the city of Milan, region of Lombardy, Italy. Graduated from the University of Milan (Università degli Studi di Milano), Faculty of Biology (at the present time – Department of Biosciences (Dipartimento di Bioscienze) Faculty of Science and Technology (Facoltà di Scienze e Tecnologie), with MSc in Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, in the city of Milan, region of Lombardy, Italy (1974). Associate Researcher for the Institute of Agricultural Biology and Biotechnology (Istituto di Biologia e Biotecnologia Agraria), the National Research Council of Italy (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche), in the city of Milan, region of Lombardy, Italy (1975 – present). Research interests in plant physiology and biochemistry with special interest on adaptation to environment and stress. New approaches on agronomy, physiology, biotechnology and biochemistry for sustainable non-food plants, for industrial bioproducts as well as renewable energy and green chemistry products. PI and Co-PI for a numerous national and international research projects with cooperative research institutions in Russia, Bulgaria, Uzbekistan, Moldova, India, and other countries. Invited speakers in several international congresses and conferences. Author and co-author of more than 100 scientific publications.
