Shavnin Sergey Alexandrovich, born 14 May, 1952 in the town of Korsakov, Korsakovsky District, Sakhalin Oblast, Russia. Graduated from Tomsk State University (at the present time – National Research Tomsk State University), Faculty of Biology and Soils (at the present time – Institute of Biology, Ecology, Soil Science, Agriculture and Forestry (Institute of Biology)), with a specialty in Biology, Biophysics, in the city of Tomsk, Tomsk Oblast, Russia (1974), PhD studies in Biophysics at M. Gorkiy Ural State University (USU) (12 May 2011 USU has been affiliated to Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Eltsin), Faculty of Biology (at the present time – Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics), in the city of Sverdlovsk (4 September 1991 the city of Sverdlovsk regained its historical name Yekaterinburg), Russia (former USSR). Candidate of Biological Sciences (PhD) in Biophysics (1981). PhD thesis: «Vliyanie Gazovogo Sostava Atmosfery na Svetozavisimuyu Bioelektricheskuyu Aktivnost' List'ev Rasteniy» (Influence of the Atmosphere Gas Content on Light Dependent Bioelectric Activity of Plant Foliage), Sverdlovsk, 1981 (in Russian).
