Tuzhilkina Valentina Vasil'evna, born 11 August, 1949. Graduated from Leningrad Forest Technical Academy (at the present time – Saint-Petersburg State Forest Technical University), Forestry Faculty, with a specialty Engineer of Forestry (1973). Candidate of Biological Sciences (PhD) in Plant Physiology and Biochemistry (1984), Senior Research Scientist in Ecology for the Department of Forest Biological Problems of the North, Institute of Biology, Komi Republic Scientific Centre, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in the city of Syktyvkar, Komi Republic. Secretary of the Komi Department of the Russian Botanical Society. Participant of grants of the RFBR, international research projects «SPICE (Solid Precipitation Intercomparison Experiment)» (2000-2003), «OMRISK - Impacts and Risks from Anthropogenic Disturbances on Soil, Carbon Dynamics and Vegetation in Podzolic Ecosystems» (2005-2008), and «Global Change and Ecosystems» supported by the European Union and the Global Evironment Facility (2007-2010). Expert in ecological physiology of woody plants, environmental assessment in large-scale national economic projects of the Russian Federation, the Komi Republic, the Nenets Autonomous District on development and exploitation of oil, gas, and forest resources, PROON/GEF project on carbon sequestration (2010). Author and co-author of more than 130 scientific publications, including 5 books.
