Pichler Viliam

Pichler Viliam, born 14 July, 1968 in the city of Zvolen, Zvolen, Zvolen District, Czechoslovakia (since 01 January 1993 – Slovakia). Graduated from the University of Forestry and Wood Technology in Zvolen (at the present time – Technical University in Zvolen), Faculty of Forestry, with a specialty in Forestry, qualification Engineer of Forestry (1991), PhD studies in Forest Ecology at Faculty of Forestry, Technical University in Zvolen, (1992-1996, with PhD in Forest Ecology, 1996), in the city of Zvolen, Zvolen District, Slovakia. Post-Doctoral Researcher for the Laboratory of Dr., Professor William Jury at the Department of Environmental Sciences, College of Natural & Agricultural Sciences, University of California, in the city of Riverside, Riverside County, California, United States (1996-1997). Assistant Professor (1998-2002), Associate Professor (2003-2012), Professor (2012-present) in Forest Ecology for the Department of Natural Environment, Dean (2012-present) for the Faculty of Forestry, Technical University in Zvolen, in the city of Zvolen, Zvolen, Zvolen District, Slovakia. Awarded Full Professorship in Ecology at the Czech University of Life Sciences, in the city of Prague, Czech Republic (2012). Director of the PhD Study Programme «Forest Ecosystem Services», conducts research and teaching with focus on forest soil science and soil hydrology, supervised several PhD students. Deputy-Сhair for the Slovak Chamber of Foresters, Deputy Coordinator for the IUFRO: 8.01.04 - Water Supply and Quality Unit, member of the Council for Natural Sciences of the Slovak Research and Development Agency, and on numerous councils, editorial boards, and other international bodies and programmes, as UNESCO Man and Biosphere Programme. Member of management or steering committees of several European Cooperation in Science & Technology (COST) actions, as: FP601 FORMAN – Forest Management and the Water Cycle, EES 1203 – Enhancing the Resilience Capacity of Sensitive mountain Forest Ecosystems under Environmental Change (SENSFOR), and others. Organizer, PI and participant of a numerous international scientific expeditions in Northern Scandinavia, Yukon, and Northwest Territories of Canada, and the Taymyr Peninsula in Russia. Editor for the books and books’ chapters: «Forest Management and the Water Cycle – An Ecosystem-Based Approach», Springer, Ecol. Stud., 2011, and «European Forest Recreation and Tourism: A Handbook», Taylor & Francis, 2008. Author and co-author of more than 80 scientific publications.
