Kazankin Alexander Petrovich
Kazankin Alexander Petrovich, born 5 June, 1929. Graduated from Saratov Agricultural Institute (now ̶ Saratov State Vavilov Agrarian University), Faculty of Agroforestry (now ̶ Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Forest Management), with a specialty in Forest Amelioration (1951). Senior Research Scientist in Forestry (1970), Doctor of Biological Sciences in Ecology (1991). DSc. thesis: «Zaschitnye i Vodoreguliruyuschie Funkcsii Lesa v Gornykh Ekosistemakh Severnogo Kavkaza» (Protective and Water Regulating Functions of Forest in Mountain Ecosystems of Northern Caucasus), Krasnoyarsk, V. N. Sukachev Institute of Forest, Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch, 1989 (in Russian). For many years worked in mountain forest enterprises of the North Caucasus as district engineer on forest diseases, forester, senior forester (1951-1960), in All-Russian Research Institute of Silviculture and Mechanization of Forestry (VNIILM), Research Institute on Mountain Forestry and Forest Ecology, as Head of a Reference Site, Mountain Forest Laboratory (1960-1997), Leading Research Scientist, Chief Scientist (1997-2009). Member of the Academic Council of Pyatigorsk Local History Museum, Caucasian Mountain Society, in the city of Pyatigorsk, Stavropol Krai, Russia (2010-present). Awarded by the medal «Veteran of Labor» (1985), Honorary Diplomas of the State Forestry of the USSR, the Soviet Union Goskomles (1979, 1983, 1984, 1989), Honorary Diplomas of the Minister of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation (2004), Honorary Diploma of the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Stavropol Krai (2008). Specialist in the field of forestry, forest ecology, forest hydrology and climatology. Author and co-author of 88 scientific publications, including book «Ekologicheskaya Rol’ Gornykh Lesov Kavkaza» (The Ecological Role of Mountain Forests of the Caucasus), Novosibirsk, Sib. Br. Rus. Acad. Sci. Publ. House, 2013 (in Russian with English abstract).
