Vtyurin Gennadiy Mikhailovich, born 20 June 1947. Graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Geography (1975). Candidate of Agricultural Sciences (PhD) in Soil Science (1988), Senior Researcher (1990). PhD thesis: «Struktura Pochvennogo Pokrova Yuznoi Chasti Basseina Reki Pechory» (Structure of Soil Cover of the Southern Part of the Pechora River Basin), Moscow, 1988 (in Russian). Senior Research Scientist for the Department of Soil Science, Institute of Biology, Komi Republic Scientific Centre, Russian Academy of Sciences, Ural Branch, in the city of Syktyvkar, Komi Republic. Research interests in evolution of soils and soil cover of taiga zone of the European North-East in Holocene. PI for research project «Paleosoil Formation at the European North-East», supported by RFBR. In the result of this project implementation the data have been received on absolute age of taiga soils, aging from 10 800 to 112 000 years. The author for hypothesis on polygenetic development of taiga soils. Author and co-author of more than 60 scientific publications including three monographs.
